Buffalo Sabres Sign Peyton Krebbs to Extension
The Buffalo Sabres are signing Peyton Krebs to a two-year deal worth an average of $1.45 million per year, the team announced Tuesday.
Krebs was the only restricted free agent remaining on the roster for Buffalo, and he has already spent three seasons in the blue and yellow. The 23-year-old had four goals and 13 assists in 80 games last season but has totaled 20 goals and 46 assists in his career. He had two assists in the last five games of the 2023-24 season.
The Calgary, Alberta native was originally drafted by the Vegas Golden Knights at 17th overall and spent 2020-22 with the Golden Knights.
He was named WHL East Second-Team in 2020 and WHL East Division Player of the Year in 2021 along with WHL Player of the Year in 2021.
Of Krebs’ 66 career points, only one came in Vegas.
Krebs was part of the 2021 trade between Vegas and Buffalo which sent himself and Alex Tuch along with a first-round pick in the 2022 or 2023 NHL Draft and a second-round pick in the 2023 or 2024 NFL Draft to the 716 in exchange for Jake Eichel and a third-round pick in the 2023 or 2024 NHL Draft.
“I think we're still gonna see him improve and we're gonna see him grow as a player,” Kevyn Adams, Sabres general manager, said in April. “I like his competitiveness. I like his character. And I like his mature mindset of different ways to succeed in this league and not just an offensive side.”
