College Basketball’s Last Undefeated Team Is From Western New York
As the regular season for Men's and Women's college basketball starts to wrap up and sports programs all over the nation start to prepare for the postseason, there is only one team left with a perfect record this season. Among the more than 1,000 teams that cross the two college basketball leagues, the NCAA and NIAI, the Daemen University Wildcats are alone with a perfect record.
As of Saturday, March 15, the Wildcats have an impressive 28-0 record and are en route to some big wins in the NCAA Division II East Coast Conference this year.
The Wildcats, who play right off Main Street inside the Lumsden Gymnasium in Amherst, New York, have drawn some big crowds this year. Rightfully so, as the team is not only the number one ranked men's program in NCAA Division Two, but it's also been getting some national attention for the University.
Some of that attention has come from Tim Graham, a sportswriter for The Atlantic who is no stranger to Buffalo and the Wildcats. Graham has spent nearly a lifetime in Western New York and highlighted some of the Wildcats' accomplishments this year in his Atlantic article.
While Daemen has mostly played other teams from Division II, they also have victories against NCAA Division I opponents like the University at Buffalo Bulls, who they defeated 67-61 in UB's Alumni Arena.
The Wildcats have their work cut out for them as they look to extend their undefeated season. They will take on the 5th seed, St. Thomas Aquinas, during the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship game on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
