
Could This Become The Next Federal Holiday Observed In New York?
As spring gets into full swing, people all over the region are getting ready to celebrate quite a few things in Buffalo, Western New York, New York State, and the United States of America.
Not only has winter largely left town, the weather is turning nice, it's finally time to get started on all those spring project; plus lent will be over soon and we'll be celebrating Easter. With more than 330 million people in America getting ready to celebrate a major tenant of the Christian, Easter is a big deal around these parts. It's not just Easter, but also Easter Monday, which is known around these parts as Dyngus Day.
It's such a big deal that the way we celebrate Easter Monday maybe changing if some politicians get their way.
Could This Become The Next Federal Holiday Observed In New York?
With hundreds of millions of Americans celebrating Easter, some folks have asked why isn't it a holiday like other days?
Of the 11 federally recognized holidays in the United States, there is only one that is connected to a religious observance - Christmas. There is a new bill in Congress right now that would change that and make the Monday after Easter the 12th federal holiday.
Eric Schmitt, a US Senator from Missouri, has introduced Senate Bill S.1426 which would officially designate Easter Monday as a legal federal holiday.

Several countries all over the world like Canada, Australia, and others already recognize Easter Monday as a holiday, and if this bill is able to move through Congress and become law, it would make people all over Buffalo happy.
