Buffalo Business Devastated After Fire

A locally owned Buffalo business is grieving after losing its space to a massive four-alarm fire. 

Just before 10 o’clock this morning (March 1st), Buffalo firefighters responded to a call of smoke and flames in the 700 block of Main Street downtown near Washington and East Tupper streets. Shortly after, a large fire engulfed the four-story brick building at 747 Main Street.

Several streets surrounding the fire are still closed to traffic, and Buffalo Fire Commissioner William Renaldo and Mayor Byron Brown confirmed that one firefighter has perished.

The owner of the building is Congressman Chris Jacobs, who owns several properties in the area, but the building only had one tenant - DC Theatricks. 

A costume shop, DC Theatricks has been known for creating and renting ensembles to theatre groups, schools, and television shows worldwide for nearly 40 years. According to their website, they owned over 30,000 costumes, props, and accessories - many of which are now likely destroyed. 

After learning the news of the massive fire that ripped through their business, the owners posted on their Facebook page how heartbroken they are.

We can’t imagine how the owners of DC Theatricks must feel right now. Understandably, we hope they take time to grieve and determine the next steps to get their business back on its feet. Our thoughts go out to them, as well as to the family of the fallen firefighter.
