Families who are fitting in their last-minute vacations will want to be aware of these new procedures while going through airport security.

Back to school will be here soon, so many families with kids are trying to squeeze as much time out of summer as they can. If that means you'll be flying out of New York soon, there are some things you might want to be aware of when it comes to new security features.

The "Families On The Fly" campaign isn't in New York airports yet

The TSA has already begun rolling out its new "Families On The Fly" campaign to make it less stressful and more enjoyable to fly with a family that has little ones. Included in the campaign are dedicated family lanes to help with this.

At this point, there aren't any airports in New York that will be participating in the program, but some of the big cities where you may be traveling could be.

Here are the cities that are already participating in the "Families On The Fly" campaign

If you are flying to any of the following cities, you could be eligible to take advantage of the "families only" lanes:

  • Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL): Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Orlando International (MCO): Orlando, Florida
  • Charlotte-Douglas International (CLT): Charlotte, North Carolina
  •  John Wayne Orange County Airport (SNA): Santa Ana, California (though it serves the entire Orange County area)
  • Jacksonville International (JAX): Jacksonville, Florida
  • Will Rogers World Airport (OKC): Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
  • Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD): Warwick, Rhode Island (serving the Providence metropolitan area)
  • Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU): San Juan, Puerto Rico

So if you're headed to Disney, going to watch the Buffalo Bills in Charlotte soon, or if you're lucky enough to visit Hawaii, these lanes could be for you.

Things you need to know:

These lanes are dedicated for families with children under the age of 12.

The lanes are wider to accommodate strollers, diaper bags, and other family stuff.

You do not need to use TSA Pre-check to use the lanes, but soon, they will offer discounted TSA Pre-check to make it even easier to buzz through the line.

Children 12 and under can accompany a parent or guardian with TSA PreCheck through the PreCheck lane at no extra cost

Military personnel and their families will also have access to these lanes.

They do plan to expand the program to more airports soon.
