A large fire is currently sending smoke billowing throughout downtown Buffalo.

Just before 10 am this morning (March 1st), fire overtook a four-story brick building on the 700 block of Main Street and Washington Street. Smoke can be seen for miles as commuters enter the city of Buffalo, including on the 33.

Buffalo firefighters are still battling the blaze, and city officials stated that one firefighter remains unaccounted for.

DC Theatricks, a costume rental company, is known to occupy the building at 747 Main Street. The company is known for loaning costumes to area theatre companies and mascot costumes for local sports teams.

Reports say the building has partially collapsed as firefighters continue to battle the four-alarm blaze. As of yet, there are no reports of injuries or fatalities, and we don't know if the building was occupied when the fire broke out.

We are also unaware as of yet if any other buildings in the surrounding area have been affected.

The cause of the fire will be investigated when the blaze is contained.

WGRZ reports the building is owned by Congressman Chris Jacobs, who believes the structure could have possibly been damaged in the recent earthquake that shook Buffalo and surrounding areas on February 6th.

Please be advised that if you are traveling downtown today, there will most likely be several road closures until the fire is safely put out.

We will have more added to this story as more information is known.
