As the heat and humidity return to New York State this week, the last thing on your mind might be a frosty and crispy morning in the deer stand. However, after seeing this report, I am getting excited.
According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, one county led the way in terms of adult male deer taken. While all numbers seem to be up, one county had a great season.
The County That Killed The Most Bucks In New York State
As I read through the report, it was clear that Steuben County was the buck capital and had a jaw dropping 7,787 bucks reported killed. Allegany County came in second place where hunters reported 4,820 bucks killed.
The report is very interesting and covers so many great stats including the Youth Deer Hunt Harvest that indicates that "1,907 deer taken (37% antlerless and 63% antlered deer".
Getting more young hunters in the woods is key to conservation and the longevity of the Greta hunting tradition in New York State. Perhaps New York State will consider allowing for even younger kids to get in on the action in the future.
