The egg prices around New York State are insane. If you are trying to buy chickens for your backyard to raise your own chickens for eggs, here is how many you HAVE TO buy.

How much are egg prices around New York State?

In Western New York the most we have seen is almost $12 for a pack of 18 eggs. At the very least, Aldi locations have eggs for a dozen for just over $4 so, there is quite the gap in price at grocery stores in the State. In fact, will the prices go down soon for eggs? It seems like they should. According to a report from the USDA, there have been no high demand for eggs and no outbreaks of the bird flu in the past couple of weeks. According to the United States Department of Agriculture's website:

Demand for shell eggs continues to fade into the new month as no significant outbreaks of HPAI have been detected in nearly two weeks. This respite has provided an opportunity for production to make progress in reducing recent shell egg shortages. As shell eggs are becoming more available, the sense of urgency to cover supply needs has eased and many marketers are finding prices for spot market offerings are adjusting downward in their favor".

New York State requires that you buy 6 chicks for your house if you are going to raise the chickens either for meat or eggs. Now, this law only applies if the chicks you are buying are 8 weeks old or less. If you are adding to a larger flock that still exists the law still applies.
