Customs And Border Protection Seize Assault Weapon At Peace Bridge
Living along an international border has its pluses and minuses. For one thing, being so close to Canada has, for many years, been a great thing. Not only do Western New York and Southern Ontario have a special relationship that goes back more than 200 years, but we also share an awesome commodity in the Great Lakes.
Living in Buffalo often means being able to hop over to parts of Canada quicker than you can get to other parts of Western New York, and with three major international border bridges, it's not difficult at all to find yourself in Fort Erie, Niagara Falls, or St. Catharine's in a matter of minutes.
Now, getting over the border quickly is thanks to the hard work that members of US Customs and Border Protection put in every day to make sure people get across the border safely, soundly, and legally. However, not everyone who reaches the Peace Bridge, Rainbow Bridge, or Lewiston-Queenston Bridge comes with the nicest intentions.
CBP Officers Snag Illegal Weapons at Port Of Buffalo
There are many stories about people trying to cross one of our international bridges with some illegal goods. Sometimes it's a case of attempted smuggling other times its just a simple wrong turn; but thankfully CBP officers are hard are work to keep people in line and following the law.
A perfect example of this happened this past week as Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a North Carolina man at the Peace Bridge who was in possession of some illegal weapons and more than 100 bullets.
The man, whose name has not been released, was turned over to the Buffalo Police Department to face weapons charges.
