Buffalo Artists, The NFTA Has An Opportunity For You To Shine
One of the great things that comes with living in a place like Buffalo and Western New York is the people. The region is filled with all sorts of diversity that impacts and adds flavor to our everyday lives. From the Africans, Irish, Italians, and Polish who helped to shape Buffalo in its early days to the Burmese, Somali, and Bengali who are now immigrating to the region and helping to revitalize the area, celebrating the best we have to offer is a positive we have in town.
One of the ways we celebrate these contributions is with the various festivals and other cultural events that happen throughout the year. With public murals all over town to billboards, and other displays, Buffalo is the City of Good Neighbors, and it shows every day.
As we approach 2026, many organizations are starting to look to what they're going to do next year, and the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority is among them.
Buffalo Artists, The NFTA Has An Opportunity For You To Shine
As part of its efforts in community engagement, the NFTA Metro has several opportunities for artists in the Buffalo area to be able to display their work. From all the public art you can find around Buffalo's Metro Rail stations to huge rolling murals on Metro Buses, there are several chances for you to display your skills.
Perhaps one of the biggest opportunities is available right now, and the NFTA is looking for artists for the 2026 Black History Month Bus.
In partnership with the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area, the NFTA wants to display art that honors Black History Month.
The 2026 theme is Voices of Power: Black Women Leading the Way in Western NY and can be new art or some existing artwork. The Grand Prize winner will not only have their art displayed on a Metro Bus, but they will also receive $1,500 for their artistic contribution.
The deadline to submit artwork is Friday, December 5, 2025, and you can find all the details here on the NFTA website.
This is a great opportunity for you to get some of your art on display, so if you or someone you know has what it takes, please sign up.
