Hundreds Of Buffalo Kids Got Set On The Pathway to Prosperity

As the dog days of Buffalo summer drag on, it seems like there are so many things that we need to get done but nowhere near enough time to accomplish it all. From family gatherings to massive festivals and county fairs, there are so many things that we want to do, but you have to make sure you're strategic with your to-do list.

While many people were all around Western New York doing all sorts of things, a couple hundred teens and young adults gathered at Buffalo's All High Stadium for an all-day financial literacy conference to help people learn better money management skills, along with getting some real down-to-earth life advice from a few highly successful young people who have made successful businesses in Atlanta and Detroit.

The Pathways to Prosperity initiative was created by Buffalo Councilmember Rasheed NC Wyatt, a former banker and auditor who made his way to the city council in his hometown, in an effort to help people learn the skills they need to prosper in life, and not just financially.

This is a collaborative effort and we can't do this by ourselves. Buffalo's a third-poorest city of our size and how do we change it? We can't change it through osmosis.. So if we teach these young people about financial literacy, hey, maybe they can find their way to find their own independence and their own entrepreneurial way to start their own businesses.

To help drive that home for young folks who don't want to listen to old bankers tell them about it, Council Member Wyatt invited Reginae Carter, Icewear Vezzo, and YKNiece to Buffalo to be part of the third Pathways to Prosperity this year.

All three shared great information for a few hundred Buffalo kids, and YKNiece held a mini-concert on stage before things wrapped up.
