What was expected to be a pretty exciting and important election year has just seen the level of drama increase a tad more as the list of people running for office has started to grow.

Just a few weeks ago, New York's Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado was in Buffalo making a campaign stop to support his run to challenge Kathy Hochul for the Governor's office later this year. It seems his stop in Buffalo resulted in more than him getting some support from Upstate New York, as a development that was first reported on by Investigative Post has caught people all over the Empire State by surprise.

The former candidate for Mayor of Buffalo in 2021, who won the Democratic primary, India Walton, has joined Delgado's ticket and is now running for Lieutenant Governor.

India Walton Running For New York Lieutenant Governor in 2026

Walton has a long history in Buffalo advocating for people and has made a few political moves over the years. In 2021, she won the Democratic primary for Mayor of Buffalo, but lost to Byron Brown in the general election after Republicans helped to support Brown as a write-in independent candidate. Since then, Walton has earned the support of various national political figures, including Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, and now current New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (who even came to Buffalo and knocked on doors to support Walton).

With the New York State Democratic Convention set for this month in Syracuse, we should get a better idea of who Hochul is going to pick as her Lieutenant Governor running mate.

There isone  thing that we know for sure, New Yorkers will have a big choice to make later this year as we get ready to select a new Governor.
