Will New York State have a budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year? The answer is now yes after lawmakers officially signed and approved the proposed budget.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that she and lawmakers reached an agreement on the budget back in April, but there were still some loose ends to agree on before putting pen to paper, and now those details have been taken care of.

What Does The New York State Budget Include?

The Governor pushed to help put money back in the pockets of most residents of New York State. Now that the budget is official, there are several items in place for that to happen.

A Tax break for low and middle-income families
The first-ever inflation rebate check for New York State residents
Child Care Credits
Free school breakfasts and lunches

What Other Policies Are Coming Now That The New York State Budget Is Passed?

One big change will be the use of cell phones in New York State schools. With the new budget getting approved, a cell phone ban at school in New York will go into effect this September. The bill will ban the use of cell phones by students between the first and last bell of the day while they are in class.

The total New York State budget will cost around $254 billion dollars and was over a month delayed past the April 1st deadline.
