The first snowfall of winter 2025-26 is going to cause some issues for drivers across Western New York. Snowflakes started falling on Sunday and will continue throughout the day today for parts of Western New York. With the snow and cold temps also come some driving hazards across the 716.
Black Ice Reported Across Western New York
The snow that has fallen has started to quickly melt since the ground temperature is still pretty warm. That melted snow is quickly turning into a problem on local roads and highways. With today's high temperature of only 32 degrees, the melted snow along the roads could end up freezing and turning into black ice.
This morning, you are encouraged to take your time getting around town and make sure you are using defensive driving skills to make sure you get to your destination safely.
Winter Weather Advisories In Place For Western New York
There are a couple of winter advisories in place for Western New York today. A winter weather advisory is in place for Cattaraugus and Southern Erie counties until 1 pm on Tuesday. There could be 4 to 8 inches of lake effect snow between today and Tuesday afternoon.

A lake effect warning is in place for Chautauqua County until 1 pm on Tuesday as well. According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, an additional 8 to 11 inches of snow could fall before Tuesday evening.
