The Buffalo Sabres dominated the Penguins on Saturday night at KeyBank Center.

It was to be expected as Buffalo has a short pre-season before they head overseas. That means new head coach Lindy Ruff wants to get his opening night roster ready fast. So, while Pittsburgh kept stars like Sydney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin on the bench, the Sabres played most of their big-name players who easily dealt with what will not be the Penguins opening night roster.

Star defenceman Rasmus Dahlin remains out with an injury.

Big Night From Peterka, Sabres Offense

JJ Peterak scored a hat trick and once again continued playing on the top line with Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch. Henri Jokiharju, Owen Power, Dylan Cozens, and newcomer Sam Lafferty also scored a goal each. Jokiharju had a 3-point night.

New Players Showing Physicality, Speed

What was notable throughout the game was the speed and physical style of newcomers Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Sam Lafferty, and Beck Malenstyn. All 3 were annoying to play against, finished checks, and brought a nastiness this team has been desperate for. It's one pre-season game against depth players, but if they can keep that up, and have it rub off on other players, positive things are bound to happen for the Sabres this year.
