A missing dog has been found, and police need your help.

Pets often go missing, unfortunately. They are a member of your family, and there is nothing worse than a dog or cat escaping your home or yard. After all, domesticated animals aren't always the best at survival. It's a scary thing, and sometimes doesn't have the happiest of endings.

It's common, and according to Pets911.org, around 1.7 million pets were reported lost in the United States just last year. Of the missing pets, dogs lead the way, accounting for 72% of all missing pets. It's by far the most common missing pet.

Amherst Police are trying to give the family of this pup a good ending, and could use your help.

Is This Your Dog? Police Need Your Help in Western New York

Amherst Police found a dog at Garrison Road and Wherle Drive, and need your help finding its family.

If you're dog has gone missing and this pup looks like yours, the dog is currently at the Clarence Animal Shelter.  All the dogs they have up for adoption are on PetFinder.com. CLICK HERE.

According to the Town of Clarence's rules,

...all dogs that are picked up are taken to the Town of Clarence Animal Shelter at 6185 Goodrich Road and are held until the owner claims them up to 5 days. On the 6th day they become property of the Town and they can be adopted.

So, you have 5 days as of June 9 to claim the dog before it goes up for adoption. Pickup fees are $25 as well as $10 per day since they are taking care of the pet.

If you know whose dog this is, let them know immediately or call 716-407-8912.

We hope the dog gets returned to their owner, or at least finds a good home! It's always a good idea to adopt, not shop. It's only $25 to adopt a dog from the Clarence Animal Shelter if you're looking to add a furry family member.
