Josh Allen Named Player of the Month
Josh Allen was named AFC Player of the Month for September after leading the Bills to a 3-1 start.
It’s his third player of the month award in his career, with the other two occurring in September and December of 2020.
I find it hard to believe that it took him four years to don the honor again, especially when you look at his stats and highlight reels, but I digress.
In September, Allen made history.
Against the Jaguars in Week 3, he became the first NFL quarterback to complete 75% of his passes, throw four or more touchdowns, lead the team in rushing, take no sacks, and have no turnovers, all in the same game. He finished that matchup 23-of-30 with 263 yards and four passing touchdowns in addition to having 44 yards on six carries.
Allen was named offensive player of the week for Week 3 after dismantling Jacksonville.
In Week 1, he managed his fourth career game with two or more passing touchdowns and two or more rushing touchdowns, tying Pro Football Hall of Famer Steve Young for most all-time. He finished that game 18-of-23 with 232 passing yards, 39 rushing yards, two passing touchdowns, and two rushing touchdown—o one of which featured Allen going airborne to avoid six-time Pro-Bowler Budda Baker and find the endzone.
The Bills were down 17-3 late in the second quarter of that game before Allen flipped a switch and led the team to a 34-28 victory.
“You know, we’ve got Josh Allen, man, we're always going to have a chance in games,” Von Miller said post-game to applaud his performance.
The Bills offense totaled 122 points in September.
He’s led AFC quarterbacks with nine total touchdowns, a passer rating of 116.5, and seven passing touchdowns compared to zero interceptions.
His 101 pass attempts without an interception are the most for Buffalo since Joe Ferguson in 1976.
Through the month of September, Allen was 70-of-101 with 814 passing yards and seven touchdowns. He has 106 yards on 22 carries and two rushing touchdowns.
“He's been very consistent in his performance on the field, consistent in his approach, consistent in his just willingness to take what the defense is giving him," said head coach Sean McDermott.
The “everybody eats” mantra has proved to benefit the Bills, as they have multiple games in which Allen found at least eight targets, and they are the first team this season to have four different players score rushing touchdowns.
“We're building each other up right now, and that's all we're trying to do and trying to stay together as a team,” Allen said. We're really caring about each other, and everybody in this building's got that feeling.”
