[PICS] Sheena Easton Review and Setlist From Niagara Falls Show
80/90’s pop star Sheena Easton played an intimate show at the Fallsview Casino this past Saturday night. This was the second time in 2 years (June 25, 2022) she has played the venue so she has some familiarity with the type of venue and crowd. It’s been 24 years since the release of her last studio effort titled ‘Fabulous.’ Easton tours primarily on her past recordings and playing selected covers.
Easton was backed by her 4 piece band. She came out singing one of the biggest songs of the 90’s in Lisa Stanfield’s “All Around the World.” This song really fit her vocal range and it was a great song to open up her show with. Easton was very engaging poking fun at herself while also sharing stories on how some of her own material came about. She joked about how she enjoys stealing other people's songs to play live. She also talked about her work with Prince and how he encouraged her to write her own material. Easton talked about how she was always intrigued with astrology and that’s how “The Arms of Orion” came about. The song ended up on the Batman soundtrack. She did as mashup of “U Got the Look” and “Sugar Walls.” Backup singer Brandon Nix took the co-leads on “Nothing Can Compare 2 U’ and “U Got the Look” and “Sugar Walls.” He had a tremendous voice and really helped breathe new life into those songs. Easton’s quick wit was also on display when she was talking to the audience someone yelled out “I’m tired.” “Try wearing these high heels and see how you feel?’ was her remark. That garnered a lot of laughs. She of course closed with her two most well-known hits in “Morning Train” and “For Your Eyes Only.” The latter was the 1981 James Bond film of the same name. Before the last song, she said she wouldn’t bother leaving and making the audience wait so she told the audience to just pretend I left. That also drew a lot of laughs from the audience as well.
This was my first time seeing Easton live. She definitely has a good voice but sings these songs in a different way. So if you're open to new approaches, then check Easton out live. I can definitely say she is a delight to see live!
