People throughout Western New York have been complaining about the state of the nightlife scene in Buffalo for years. This is especially true for downtown Buffalo and the Chip Strip. Since the pandemic ended, clubs, bars, and pubs have had a difficult time being able to sustain themselves all over the region.

Since 2020, we've seen some notable losses in the nightlife scene across town. Not only have several hotspots closed due to fire or vandalism, we've also had several places shut down by local government due to violence, along with some placing not being able to sustain themselves economically thanks to all sorts of costs and fees.

Even though there is a small ray of sunshine with the opening of a new club in downtown Buffalo, things have been tough, and things are going to change more after a recent change that has been made by the city of Buffalo.

Buffalo Closing Chippewa Street To Traffic On Weekends

For years, you could find a long line of cars trying to cruise down West Chippewa Street as thousands of people have made their way to all of the clubs, bars, pubs, and restaurants that dot the strip. Now, however, that is all going to change as cars will no longer be allowed to drive down West Chippewa Street on weekend nights.

According to news reports from WIVB-TV and WGRZ-TV, city officials are looking to cut down on violence and general uncouth behavior in the city's central entertainment district.

Effective immediately, and running through Labor Day, West Chippewa from Delaware Ave to Franklin Street will be closed to all vehicles from 10pm to 4am on Friday and Saturday nights.

These new rules come on the heels of a major fight and stabbing that happened on West Chippewa, and officials hope that law enforcement officials will be better able to control the crowd.

We'll just need to wait and see if these steps help or if the city will impose other rules on the people.
