Buffalo Helps: Benefits for Brick Bar Employees, LA Musicians
The City of Good Neighbors is stepping up to help out over the next few days, with a two-day benefit for the employees of Brick Bar and a concert to help musicians who lost everything in the LA wildfires.
First, on Friday and Saturday night, dozens of bands will be playing both stages at Nietzsche’s to help raise money for the staff at Mulligan’s Brick Bar, many of whom have now lost their jobs twice in about six months. Starting Friday at 4 p.m., a dozen bands will play on Friday night, starting with Ed Croft and Tina Williams, ending with Snakeland taking the back room stage at 12:30 a.m.
There’s even more music on Saturday, with Celtic Sessions kicking the festivities off in the front room from 4-6 p.m. and wrapping up with Spud at 12:30 a.m. in the front room and 10 more bands in between.
Tickets for each day’s events are $20, with all funds going to Brick Bar employees. “Every single dollar earned from ticketing goes right back to the former staff at Brick Bar,” Nietzsche’s new ownership group says on Instagram. “Musicians are donating their time, gift certificates will be raffled off, memories will be shared - and we’ll stand behind our friends, neighbors and community.”
Neitzsche’s staff are also encouraging people who live out of town, or who otherwise can’t make it to either night’s festivities, to make a donation in support of Brick Bar employees. Tickets can be purchased here for Friday and here for Saturday or at the door. On Monday night, in Black Rock, Sportsmen’s Tavern will host “Help on the Way: A Buffalo Benefit for Musicians Displaced by the Los Angeles Fires.”
Slated to perform at the event, starting at 6 p.m., will be Organ Fairchild, The Damone Jackson Outcome, Miller & The Other Sinners, Critt’s Juke Joint and fan favorite Tiger Chung Lee. All proceeds from the $15 ticket will be donated to MusiCares’ Los Angeles Fire Relief Fund.
Hosted by longtime Buffalo News writer Jeff Miers -- whose son, Declan, lives in LA and was able to safely evacuate with his partner, Hannah -- and Linda Appleby, the event is a way for musicians to come together to support their fellow artists struggling and working to recover on the other side of the country.
For those who cannot attend, donations can be made by going to donor.musicares.org/page/lafirerelief.
