During the summer of 2024, a Buffalo Police Officer shot and killed the driver of a car in Buffalo's University District. That shooting, which had many people in Western New York upset regarding the circumstances that led to the shooting, was being investigated by the New York State Attorney General, which they do for any shooting that involves a police officer in the state.

After a nearly 9-month review, the Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation has finally released a notification that they have finished their investigation and that a final report is coming soon. That final report will give the full review of what happened to Daevon Roberts and the two Buffalo Police Officers who contributed to his death. Body camera footage of the incident is available on the Attorney General's website.

While a final report is forthcoming, the notice issued by the NYAG-OSI details the initial findings about the shooting that made the news worldwide, and state authorities find that Officer Ronald Ammerman was potentially justified in shooting and killing Roberts.

OSI has concluded that a prosecutor would not be able to disprove beyond a reasonable doubt at trial that the officer’s use of deadly physical force was justified under the law.

The Attorney General website has details from OSI's initial findings. Because of these findings, no criminal charges will be filed against the officer.

While the final report is forthcoming, you can watch the body camera footage and decide for yourself if you feel this is the correct result or if the government has got it incorrect.
