Many Western New Yorkers are seeing a strange simple on gas station signs all across the 716.

The number 3 has been appearing in front of the decimal as we finally see the average price for a gallon of gas here in Western New York drop below the $4 mark

According to AAA, the current average price for a gallon of gas in Western New York is around $3.95. Erie County has the highest average at $4.00, while the cheapest gas in Western New York is in  Niagara County where the average price is $3.84 per gallon.

The average price for a gallon of gas in Chautauqua County is $3.96 and in Cattaraugus County, the cost is $3.97 per gallon.

Overall we have seen the price of gas drop over the past two months. The average price for a gallon of gas in New York State is $3.88 which is still more than the national average. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas is $3.71.

Last month we were paying about 40 to 50 cents more per gallon while last year, the average price of gas was around $3.20.

We will continue to see gas prices drop as more and more gas stations will switch from the summer blend of gas to the winter blend of gas. Stations and producers are allowed to switch back to the winter blend starting on September 15th. Due to the change in ingredients, the winter blend is cheaper to produce, which means the price at the pump is lower as well.

We could see a drop in the price of a gallon of gas between 10-30 cents per gallon.
