There are few things that are more rewarding than fishing with kids. Even if you are catching a small fish, like a sunfish, it is exciting to see a child's reaction to being out on the water on a summer day with a fishing pole in hand.
But before you take dad and the kids fishing this weekend, there are some things that you need to know about the fish you catch and plan to keep and eat.

When you fish this weekend, are you planning on keeping the fish you catch? If so, there are health concerns based on the amount and type of fish you plan to cook or fry up.
advisory listAccording to the reports on the New York State website, "New advice is based on an extensive review of available statewide fish contaminant data and considers input from more than 7,800 anglers".
The list is so interesting. If you catch a fish, you can check to see IF you should eat it and how many per month. For example, New York State recommends that you DON'T eat channel catfish or carp if you are fishing in the Buffalo/Erie County area of Western New York.
