Thousands of New Yorkers will be on the road this weekend for the 4th of July, and along with them will be plenty of Police.

Police Will Be Out In Full Force This Weekend

You can expect to see more New York State Police and local police on the roads this weekend as the STOP-DWI and High Visibility campaign for the 4th of July holiday kicks off today and goes through the weekend.

Why Will There Be More Police Across New York State?

The STOP-DWI and High Visibility campaign was created several years ago to help counties in New York coordinate local efforts to reduce alcohol and other drug-related traffic crashes.

The program also allows local police to collect funding for:

  • specially trained police units dedicated to DWI enforcement,
  • hire special prosecutors and probation officers to handle the caseload,
  • monitoring ignition interlock, support rehabilitation services

When Does The STOP-DWI and High Visibility Campaign Run?

This program in New York runs around all major holidays and during the summertime. Most campaigns last three or four days near major holidays like Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and St. Patrick's Day.

The Program also runs during the summer months when more people are on the road. This is part of the 100 Days of Summer campaign, when patrols are increased on the weekend during the summer months.
