Join Buffalo’s own Robby Takac for Music is Art guitar auction fundraiser tonight.

We’re about a month away from this year’s Music is Art festival, taking place Saturday, September 21 at the Outer Harbor’s Terminal B and Lakeside Lawn venues, but the organization’s founder is hoping Western New Yorkers are getting in the festival spirit early.

Robby Takac, bassist for the Goo Goo Dolls, is hosting a fundraiser tonight, Thursday, August 8, at the Variety Club in Lancaster from 6-9 p.m. Your $50 ticket includes a catered dinner, drinks, the opportunity to participate in a basket raffle, and the main event, the guitar auction. Takac is set to perform at the event as well, teaming up with Jamie Holka.

The guitars up for auction are pretty incredible. Bring your wallet to bid on guitars autographed by:

James Taylor
Deep Purple
Alice Cooper
Kiss
Def Leppard
Guns N Roses
Eagles
Metallica
Bruce Springsteen
Led Zeppelin - Robert Plant, Jimmy Page
Jimmy Buffet
Eric Clapton
Rolling Stones
Taylor Swift
Buffalo’s own Willie Nile

The auction promises to have a great selection of other autographed items available for bid throughout the night.

Auctions like this one help keep Music is Art free to the public, as it has been for all of its 22 years. Donations are always welcomed and accepted, both at the festival and at the organization’s website, www.musicisart.org.

August is shaping up to be a busy month for Takac and his crew:

  • On Wednesday, August 14, there’s a happy hour featuring Taiste and Will of the Wisp at Jack Rabbit on Elmwood from 7-11 p.m.
  • The next night, August 15, has an Alliance Open Mic at Buffalo Distilling with songwriter Ryan Kaminski, hosted by Trever Stribing.
  • The annual Party on the Portico at the Buffalo History Museum, sponsored by Music is Art, takes place on Friday, August 16, from 6-9 p.m. with performances from Miller & The Other Sinners and Michael DeLano.

And then there’s the big day! There will be more than 20 stages set up across the 17 acres of land between Terminal B and the Lakeside Lawn, featuring hundreds of bands, singers, dancers, artists, performers, and others, all from Western New York, from 11 a.m. until 1 a.m., starting on September 21. There will be art installations, circus acts, a kids’ village with arts and crafts, food trucks, vendors, and beverages for all age levels. It’s one of the best days of the year and tops the list for why Buffalo and Western New York is such a great place to live.
