The Bills Squished The Fish: Buffalo V. Miami
After a short week for the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills, it was game day for the rivals at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami was favored to win by 2.5 points.
Both teams found themselves down by 14 points in Week 1 but clawed their way to a win in the fourth quarter.
Let’s talk about these two teams after their Thursday night matchup.
Josh Allen is historically good against the Dolphins. He’s won 13 of the last 15 games and had 41 touchdowns to just 13 interceptions. He’s won AFC Player of the Week five times versus Miami and has thrown for at least two touchdowns in all 13 wins.
In the Week 1 faceoff with the Cardinals, Allen was 18-for-23 passing with two passing touchdowns along with 39 yards on the ground and two rushing touchdowns.
Allen also has a slight left hand injury in which he will be wearing a glove. Additionally, the Bills are still a team in transition and figuring out who they are, as the offense looks very different now than it did last season. Cam Lewis will be sub in for Taron Johnson, who was injured against Arizona.
"Very valuable," said defensive coordinator Bobby Babich of Lewis' versatility. "The fact that we can roll him in and feel like we don't skip a beat is extremely valuable to us. Cam's put a lot of time and effort into this thing, and hopefully he showed and can continue to show what type of player he is in a consistent way."
Buffalo’s defense also has some new faces, as one of the notable departures from last season was safety Jordan Poyer. Poyer and former Buffalo Bill Siran Neal now play for the Dolphins and are giving their current teammates some advice on how to handle their former team.
“Can take a lot of the information that I’ve been given from those guys early in the week and apply it on Thursday,” said Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Tagovailoa led all quarterbacks in Week 1 with 338 yards. He had one passing touchdown. In seven games against the Bills, he’s had six touchdowns and seven interceptions with 1,454 yards.
But the Dolphins have Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Hill was 7-of-12 with 130 yards and a touchdown in Week 1, and it’s no secret that his speed is a weapon. Waddle was 5-of-5 with 109 yards against the Jaguars.
