Bills fans, try to breathe. After trading Stefon Diggs, the Buffalo offense is in for a major makeover heading into 2024, with the NFL Draft set to begin in just over three weeks.

With Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel the two best receivers on the roster, finding a true No. 1 option is now firmly the top priority for this roster. Brandon Beane has work to do to secure a WR1 for Josh Allen to throw to. How can he go about filling that need?

Option 1: Trade For Tee Higgins

While Tee Higgins operates as the No. 2 option on the Cincinnati Bengals offense, he’s capable of being a true No. 1 receiver. Higgins has the size, the length, the ability to play above the rim, and the athleticism to win in a variety of ways on the outside.

Prior to last season where he battled through multiple injuries, Higgins had 215 receptions, 3,028 receiving yards, and 19 touchdowns over his first three seasons.

After receiving the franchise tag last month, Higgins requested a trade. He wants out, and Buffalo could greatly utilize his services. Make it happen, Beane.

Option 2: Trade For Brandon Aiyuk

Another wide receiver dealing with contract negotiations that is a true WR1 is San Francisco’s Brandon Aiyuk, who is one of the most underrated wide receivers in the NFL.

Aiyuk recently stated that he wants to get paid what he’s worth. Since being drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Aiyuk has developed into one of the best receivers in the game, particularly with his route running ability. Since the beginning of the 2022 season, Aiyuk ranks 11th in the NFL in receiving yards with 2,536, and his 17.9 receiving yards per reception was the second-best mark in the league last season. He’s an option that Beane should be calling on, even though 49ers GM John Lynch recently said they weren’t planning on trading him.

Option 3: Trade Up For Rome Odunze

This is an option I brought up a couple weeks ago. Now with an extra 2025 2nd in his arsenal, Beane has even more flexibility to swing a big trade up for Rome Odunze during the 2024 NFL Draft, and a team like the Chicago Bears at ninth overall makes a world of sense.

Rome Odunze is an elite wide receiver prospect that is capable of stepping right in on Day 1. At 6’3” 212 lbs, Odunze is an above-the-rim wide receiver prospect with great body control and excellent hands. He’s a smooth operator who runs terrific routes and would give Allen a go-to option right away.

Beane needs to do something aggressive to fill this now-pressing need on the roster. Swinging a move for an excellent prospect is now well within the range of possibilities.
