If you think the Broadway Market is only open for a few weeks around Easter, think again.

Mayor Chris Scanlon, Council Member Mitch Noakowksi, County District Legislator Lawrence Dupre and Brodway Market Manager Kathleen Peterson helped kick off “Holiday Season at the Broadway Market” last week, urging shoppers to stop into the historic market and see what’s available from local vendors.

“The historic Broadway Market is one of the most loved places in Buffalo and Western New York and a great place to shop for unique foods and gifts this holiday season,” Scanlon says, adding that his new administration is continuing to support the market, while thanking his predecessor and the council for the “significant investment going in and around this historic landmark. Together we are working to preserve the market’s history and set in motion a vibrant future for the market to ensure it is a sustainable and vibrant year-round shopping hub for residents” in the neighborhood and beyond.

There will be special events taking place at the 136-year-old Broadway Market throughout the rest of the holiday season, including visits from Santa Claus on December 14, 21 and 22 from noon until 4 p.m. Photos will be available to purchase for $5. Vendors who have a permanent place in the market, in addition to seasonal pop-up vendors, will be on hand offering special holiday foods, beverages and gifts.

Also, calling all wine and train enthusiasts: There will be a wine and train show on Saturday and Sunday, December 21 and 22, and admission is free!

“Our holiday pop-up retailers and year-round vendors are ready to celebrate the holiday season at the historic Broadway Market,” Peterson says. “This family favorite tradition continues to grow in popularity. We look forward to hosting Holiday Season at the Broadway Market on three Saturdays in December, as well as Sundy, December 22. While here, holiday revelers will find all sorts of unique gifts and crafts to purchase in a safe and very festive atmosphere.”

In addition to those events on the remaining Saturdays in December, the Broadway Market will be open Sunday, December 22, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.; Monday, December 23, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

If you’re looking for something to take to a holiday dinner with friends or a family gathering, there are dozens of vendors at the Broadway Market selling everything from pierogi to freshly ground horseradish (a must have on all Polish Christmas tables!), locally made pottery, jewelry, crafts, hats, soaps, jams and so many other interesting finds that will help your gifts stand out.

Of course, this is just one of the MANY holiday markets in Buffalo and across WNY this time of year! Others include:

Badding Brothers: Get a tree and some gifts at the same time! Located at 10820 Transit Road in Amherst, this local nursery and garden shop often hosts parties in which people can make a plant-based gift, like a terrarium or flower box, and the holiday season is no different.

Lumber City Christmas Market is a festival in Tonawanda through next Sunday, December 15, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day. Located at 700 East Robinson Street, it’s worth stopping by!

The Foundry will host its annual Maker Market next Saturday, December 14, featuring more than 35 artisans and vendors selling everything from blankets and hats to decorations and jewelry. Check it out at The Foundry, 298 Northampton, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Marjim Manor, a winery up on the shore of Lake Ontario, is taking care of all you last-minute shoppers with a Procrastinators Vendor Fair on December 21 and 22. Guests are encouraged to wear an ugly sweater and get 10% off their wine purchase! Drive up to 7171 East Lake Road in Appleton to get in on the fun.
