The Buffalo Sabres lost on Thursday night to the Montreal Canadiens for the team's first game home in nearly two weeks, as they have been on a west coast trip.

The Sabres are 4-3 with two straight losses, but what was frustrating is they did play good enough to win last night, but they just did not capitalize on chances and had too many mental mistakes.

If you did not hear, the Sabres have lost two key defenseman to injury.

Mattias Samuelsson is out a few weeks at least with a knee injury, which is actually good news, given how bad the injury looked when it happened.

Henri Jokiharju is out week-to-week with a facial fracture, which he suffered in the road game against the Calgary Flames last week.

The Sabres were forced to call up Lawrence Pilut and Kale Clague from Rochester but according to one of the top NHL insiders, general manager Kevyn Adams is exploring adding another defenseman.

TSN's Darren Dreger, the Sabres are currently in the trade market for a depth defenseman.

Ethan Bear from the Carolina Hurricanes is a name to watch but Dreger reports he doesn't see Buffalo giving up an asset right now for Bear.

I think if the Sabres want to make the playoffs this season, adding a defenseman is something they have to do. They need a reliable depth player added to the blue line for situations such as this, when injuries happen and there are multiple call-ups from the Amerks.
