Here Is What’s Happening In Western New York: Friday Edition

1 – Shocking news hit the town of Tonawanda yesterday as the owner of the Sumitomo Rubber Company announced they are closing down the plant next week. 1500 employees will lose their jobs. Union workers' final day is expected to be next Tuesday, while salary workers’ last day will be Friday. The owners cited rising costs of materials and a decrease in demand as the reason for the closure.
2 – The Buffalo Bills have a commanding lead in the race AFC East and their current odds to make the playoffs this year are at a ridiculous 99.1%. The Bills head into Sunday’s game with a 7-2 record and a 4-game lead over the Jets for the AFC East. If the Bills win the AFC East this year, it would be their 5th title in a row.
3 – We made it to Friday and there are plenty of things going on across the 716. 4 – If you have been thinking it has been getting dark early, you are 100% right. Yesterday was the final time we will have a sunset after 5 pm for the rest of the year here in Western New York. Tonight’s sunset is set for 4:58 pm. The next time we will see a sunset after 5 pm will be on January 10th, 2025.
5 –The Buffalo Sabres extended their win streak with a huge win against the New York Rangers 6-1. Six different Sabres players scored in the win, including Captain Rasmus Dahlin who scored 41 seconds into the game. The Sabres are back home tomorrow at KeyBank Center with puck drop set for 1 pm.
6 –We will have a couple of weeks of really nice weather here in Western New York. The National Weather Service said the 716 will see above-average temperatures for the next couple of weeks as temperatures will be in the mid to upper 50s for most of the area. The average temperature for Buffalo this time of year is around 48 degrees. The Old Farmer’s Almanac is predicting possible lake-effect snow the week of Thanksgiving, but early long range forecast are calling for a great chance of rain than snow.
