
Here Is What’s Happening In Western New York: Monday Edition
Here are today's top trending stories.
1 – Today it is going to be cold and snowy. There is a lake-effect snow warning in place for much of Western New York through Wednesday. A majority of the snow is expected later tonight and tomorrow with up to 1 foot of snow in the Southern Tier. It will also get really cold as the temperatures are set to drop into the single digits by tomorrow. A Cold weather advisory has been issued for the 716 starting this afternoon through 11 am on Wednesday.
2- Today is the day the President-elect Donald Trump officially takes office. The 47th president will be sworn in today at noon and start to make the transition to the White house later this afternoon. The ceremony has been moved indoors due to the cold weather and will be broadcasted live on all major networks. Trump becomes just the 2nd President to serve non-consecutive terms, Grover Cleveland was the first in late 1800s.
3-The Buffalo Bills are headed back to the AFC Championship game after they beat the Baltimore Ravens at Highmark Stadium yesterday 27-25. It was a back-and-forth game and Bills QB Josh Allen said the win was because the Bills stuck with the fundamentals. The Bills will travel to take on the KC Chiefs next Sunday. It will be the 3rd time the Bills and Chiefs will play for the AFC Championship. Kick-off is set for 6:30 pm on Sunday.
4- Most kids are off of school and government agencies, banks, and the Postal office are all closed today as we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr Day. It will be a cold Monday, and if you need some ideas to keep the kids busy today, there are plenty of things going on. 5 – While it will be cold over the next couple of days with wind chills near negative 20 in Western New York, we won’t come close to setting a new record low in Buffalo. The record for coldest temperature recorded in Buffalo is -20 back in 1934. While we could see our temperature fall near 0, we won’t get that cold this week.
6 – With extreme cold weather coming out way, there is a simple trick that homeowners in Western New York need to know. One way to help prevent your pipes from freezing and bursting, you should let your outdoor faucets drip a little bit. The running water will keep your pipes from freezing during the extreme cold.
