It's hard to believe that it's June already, but summertime is here, and unless you've been hiding, you know there's a big election for New Yorkers happening this year. Mayors and other local offices around the Empire State are up for election, and there are some critical races taking place in New York's cities.

In both Buffalo and New York City, there is a lot at stake in the election of the next mayor of New York's two largest municipalities. One thing to note is that, in both cities, you have the potential to get more of the same thing we've had for decades, and on the other hand, you've some real potential change agents on the ballot.

With the 2025 election cycle underway, it's once again time for Americans to do the most patriotic thing we can do - vote. Thanks to a change in New York State law a few years ago, registered voters do not need to wait until election day to vote, as New Yorkers can vote early.

The 2025 New York State Primary Election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24th, and early voting kicks off ten calendar days before.

In 2019, then-Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is now running for mayor in New York City, and the New York State Legislature passed a series of new laws that introduced early voting in New York. In Erie County, New York, there are nearly 38 different locations where you can cast your vote and vote at any place you choose. In the City of Buffalo there will be 11 separate locations in the City of Buffalo, with the remaining 27 locations spread throughout the suburbs around Buffalo.

In Niagara County, New York, there are four different locations where you can vote, and Niagara County residents can vote at any of these places.

You can find a complete list of every early voting location in New York State on the NYS Elections website.

2025 Is An Important Election Year For The Empire State

While the presidential election does a great job of grabbing the headlines, most experts and historical political figures agree that the local level elections are often most important. Since all politics is local, it's the mayors, city councilors, and town supervisors who have the most control over your day-to-day life.

Please take the time to go vote in the primary, the direction of communities depends on it.

It looks like democracy is hard at work; let's hope you're ready to participate.

Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting.
–Franklin Delano Roosevelt
