Western New York’s Trending Stories For Thursday

1 –It is another cold start to our day here in Western New York. Temps are in the 30s across Western New York and a couple of weather warnings are in place this morning. There is a Freeze Warning for Southern Erie and Chautauqua counites that goes until 10 am. A frost advisory is also in place for the northern parts of Western New York until 10 am as well. Today's high will be around 58 but warmer weather is on the way with 70s expected Sunday for the Bills home game against the Titans.

2 – We are two weeks away from Halloween and this year you might want to make sure your or your kids' costumes fit over some warm clothes, we could see the coldest Halloween in nearly 50 years. A massive arctic front is expected to move across Western New York the week of Halloween and temperatures could drop into the 20s and 30s for trick-or-treating. So whether you trick-or-treat on Beggar’s Night or on Halloween you might have to bundle up.
3 – You won’t be able to miss the moon tonight. Tonight’s full moon is the 3rd supermoon of the year and it will be the brightest one of the year as well. You might already notice how bright the moon was last night, but it will be brighter tonight. The next supermoon which will be the 4th and final one of 2024 is set to happen on November 15th.
4 – If you are looking for some Halloween fun this weekend, there are a couple of events happening at the Buffalo Zoo. This Friday, the Zoo is hosting one of my favorite events the 21 and over Boo Bash. You can enjoy special Halloween drinks, treats, and live music. Then on Saturday, it is for the kids as the Zoo host Boo at the Zoo. Christian from the Buffalo Zoo said there will be a lot of activities for the kids on Saturday. Boo at the Zoo also happens next Saturday, October 26th.
5- The newest Buffalo Bills Amari Cooper met with the media for the 1st time yesterday since being traded to Buffalo by the Cleveland Browns. Cooper said he is excited to play with quarterback Josh Allen (audio) Cooper should be in uniform when the Buffalo Bills host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at Highmark Stadium. Kick-off is set for 1 pm and you can watch the game locally on WIVB Channel 4.

6- No one claimed the Powerball jackpot yesterday making Saturday’s drawing a near record-breaking one. The current jackpot is up to $437 million dollars which would be the 2nd largest lottery jackpot ever won by a New York resident. The current record was set in April 2023, when Johnnie Taylor won $478 million dollars playing the Mega Millions.
