Here are today's top trending stories in Western New York.

1-Today will be the last mild day of the week. A cold front is expected to move into the area late tonight and overnight into Wednesday. The National Weather Service has already issued a Winter Storm Watch for most of Western New York with heavy lake effect snow possible across the area. Some places, mainly south of Buffalo could see up to a foot or two of new snow between Wednesday and Friday. The Winter Storm Watch will start tomorrow afternoon at 4 pm and go until Friday afternoon at 1 pm.

2- New Yorkers could be getting a check in the mail from New York State. New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced she plans to use surplus sales tax money to send checks to New York State residents. Individuals making less than $150,000 a year would get a check for $300 while families making less than $300,000 would get a check for $500.

3- The Buffalo Sabres winless streak continued as they fell to Detroit in overtime last night at KeyBank Center 6-5. After the game Head Coach Lindy Ruff said it was a back-and-forth game that the Sabres just found themselves on the wrong end. The Sabres will look to snap their 7-game winless streak tomorrow at home as they host The New York Rangers

4- Tonight you could be part of history. Tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot is up to $617 million dollars and if someone in New York wins it, it would be the largest lottery jackpot ever won in the state. 6- The largest craft beer festival in New York State returns to Buffalo in 2025. Buffalo on Tap is coming back on Saturday, February 8th at the Buffalo Convention Center.
