We've waited several months for these days to arrive, and they're finally here. Spring has sprung in Western New York, and we're all excited about everything that it brings for us and our families. Even though the ice boom is still in and tons of ice is still on the lake, that doesn't mean we can't start to get outside and begin enjoying the great Buffalo outdoors.

But what can we do this time of year, especially considering that the Easter bunny is en route to hop around town? There are several things we can do now that it's not frigid cold outside, but what should be on your to-do list?

The warmer temperatures also mean it's the perfect time to clean out some junk you've accumulated in your basement and garage. This is the ideal time of year to do it, especially since many areas around Buffalo are also scheduling their bulk trash pickup days.

Go ahead and admit it: I know I'm not the only one who didn't spend a lot of time this past winter cleaning up after the dogs in the yard when they had to go out to do their business. Don't forget that Buffalo was ranked one of the poppiest cities in the country a few years ago, so do your part to remove some of the puppy presents left for us.

Fire safety is super important, and spring is the perfect time to test all your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and change any batteries that need to be changed. Please don't wait any longer; do it right now.

Do Not Put Away The Snowblower Yet>

We know the sunshine and longer days are tempting you to start prepping the snowblower to be stored away until next winter, but whatever you do, don't do it! This happens every year, and every year, we have an early spring and mid-spring snowstorm that almost always catches us by surprise—so don't be that guy or gal. Leave the snowblower prepped and ready until at least Memorial Day—then maybe it's safe to put it away.
