Today, we learned news that Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was released from University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UC Medical).

UC Medical treated Damar there for a week, after he suffered a cardiac arrest during last Monday's game versus the Cincinnati Bengals.

After being on a ventilator and put in a medically-induced coma, Damar woke up and the first thing he asked became an inspiring tagline.

As soon as Damar woke up, he asked, “Did we win?” The doctors answered, “Damar, you won. You won the game of life.”

After the news broke that he was leaving the hospital, the hospital that treated Damar posted a photo today with this caption:

“Congratulations, Damar. You won.” The caption was signed, “Your care team.”

The photo shows four of his care team members wearing blue T-shirts with the number 3 on them. The post also shows the staff walking down the hospital wing – symbolizing the work they’d done the past week, and the job they’ll continue doing for others in critical medical need. In another Instagram post from the UC Health account, they show the on-field medical team being celebrated during yesterday’s game. The caption also honored the other dedicated staff members who couldn’t be at the game because they were back in Cincinnati completing other life-saving missions.

We are all grateful to the amazing team of medical experts both on the Buffalo Bills staff and the UC Medical team. Thank you for bringing us back one of our own – a tremendous athlete and community member that continues teaching us so many important lessons on and off the field.
